Step 9 - Varnish

The last step to building a Stand Up Paddle is to give the whole thing several coats of a good quality marine spar varnish.  Take the time necessary to build up the manufacturer’s recommended minimum number of coats of varnish to properly protect all of your hard work. 

Most people seem to like the look of gloss varnish on the blade.  However, gloss is not recommended on the handle and shaft because gloss tends to rub blisterd on paddlers hands much quicker than semi-gloss and satin varnish.
